Methodist Hospital Texsan celebrates 15 years of partnership and impact
Methodist Hospital Texsan celebrated its 15th anniversary Dec. 5, marking the milestone with a ceremony dedicated to the theme of partnership and the many collaborators who have contributed to the hospital's success.
During the event held at the hospital, Balcones Heights Mayor Johnny Rodriguez presented Methodist Hospital Texsan CEO Esther Kwon with the Key to the City and a formal proclamation recognizing the facility's impact. The proclamation highlighted the hospital's role in serving residents with “excellence, compassion and dedication” for 15 years.
In her remarks, Kwon emphasized that the hospital’s achievements are built on deep relationships, both within the hospital walls and throughout the city.
“Partnership is not simply our theme today — it is our way of life,” Kwon said. “When we work together, we heal together. When we support one another, we strengthen the entire community.”
Kwon expressed gratitude to city leadership, specifically thanking Mayor Rodriguez for his continued collaboration. “Your leadership strengthens this community and helps us serve our neighbors with excellence,” she said.
Turning her attention to the internal team, Kwon thanked the physicians, nurses and clinical teams, calling them “amazing” for showing up daily with skill and grace. She also recognized the vital role of support teams, including environmental services, food and nutrition, and security.
“A hospital is a building with equipment, but you make this place run,” Kwon told the staff. “You are the care of health care.”
The celebration honored the history of the facility, which became part of the Methodist Healthcare System following an acquisition of the former Texsan Heart Hospital finalized in early 2011. Kwon noted that at the time of the agreement, the hospital employed 320 people; today, it employs more than 650 staff members and supports eight key service lines. In the last 15 years, the hospital has served more than 200,000 people.
During his address, Mayor Rodriguez highlighted his long-standing relationship with the hospital. He told the audience he still possesses the “gold shovel” and hard hat from the facility's original groundbreaking in 2000.
Reflecting on the hospital's profound role in the city, Rodriguez noted that its value goes far beyond medical procedures.
“A hospital, at its core, represents hope,” Rodriguez said. “It represents the promise that, in moments of uncertainty or fear, help is near.”
Rodriguez praised the hospital as a “pillar of strength and stability” in Balcones Heights. He highlighted the significant economic impact of the hospital, noting that since its purchase, more than $110 million in capital investments have been made in the facility.
“That's a huge investment for a community and for the region in general,” Rodriguez said. “We really need these types of health care programs.”
The mayor also touted the hospital's national recognition, including its status as a Fortune Merative Top 100 Hospital and a Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital. In his official proclamation, Rodriguez declared that the hospital has “strengthened the community through its unwavering service, integrity and commitment to health care excellence.”
