Rowan Windham Memorial Cereal Drive and Champions for Change
In honor of Methodist patient late Rowan Windham, you can donate to the San Antonio Food Bank to end childhood hunger in our annual cereal drive.
Rowan Windham Memorial Cereal Drive
Before his passing, Rowan Windham hoped to eliminate childhood hunger by collecting boxes upon boxes of cereal from his hospital room. In his honor, Methodist Children’s Hospital champions a cereal drive every year to help reach Rowan’s goal of helping feed kids.
Through June 6, 2024, you can help us collect monetary donations for the San Antonio Food Bank. Every $1 donated equals seven servings of cereal.
A staggering 1 in 4 children in our community experience food insecurity. Thank you for helping us end childhood hunger in Bexar County!
Methodist Children's Hospital Champions for Change
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Methodist Children’s Hospital is proud to announce our 2024 Champions for Change program, which recognizes exceptional young leaders in our community. This program was created in honor of our dear patient and friend, Rowan Windham, who exemplified the qualities of leadership, compassion, and selflessness that we seek to recognize in these young champions.
We invite you to nominate your child for consideration as a Champions for Change nominee. We are looking for students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, compassion, and selflessness in their communities. The nominee should be between the ages of 8 and 18 and attend school in the local area. The 10 winners will be invited to our Breakfast for Champions scheduled for June 7, 2024. At this time, each winner will be presented with $250 to donate to the non-profit of their choice.

Methodist Children’s Hospital Surpasses Cereal Drive Goal with Over 280,000 Servings Collected
HEB and Oak Farms Dairy each donated 15,000 gallons of milk
Methodist Children's Hospital is thrilled to announce the overwhelming success of our annual Rowan Windham Cereal Drive, aimed at providing nutritious breakfast options for children during the summer months. The Rowan Windham Cereal Drive is the largest in San Antonio. Thanks to the incredible support from our staff members, facilities, community, and generous donors, this year's drive collected a total of 283,601 cereal servings, surpassing our set goal of 230,000.
Special thanks to HEB and OAK Farms Dairy, each of whom donated 15,000 gallons of milk, ensuring that children not only have cereal to eat, but also milk to go with it.
“Seeing our team members and community come together to exceed our cereal collection goal significantly is both inspiring and heartening. It underscores the shared commitment to supporting the health and well-being of our youngest community members,” says Rachel Goldsmith CEO of Methodist Children's Hospital.
The cereal and milk collected during this drive will be distributed through the San Antonio Food Bank. The Rowan Windham Cereal Drive honors the legacy of Rowan Windham, a remarkable young boy who, during his time in the hospital, selflessly requested cereal donations instead of toys to support other children in need, sparking a tradition of community generosity that continues to thrive.
