We have created a special area just for the care of our knee and hip replacement patients. There are no hospital gowns for this crowd—you get to wear your own clothes. And, family members are encouraged to participate in group therapy and other activities.
Postoperatively, patients are placed in a dedicated Joint Replacement Center wing with nurses and therapists trained in orthopedic care. Medical oversight is a key element for the program. Daily visits by a hospitalist are aimed at keeping your recovery on track and providing patients and families a chance to ask questions regarding progress.
Preoperative education
Our preoperative education class provides patients with important information on what to expect in surgery, during their hospital stay and after discharge from the hospital.
Patients experience better outcomes when they are knowledgeable about expectations and goals. This is also a chance for patients and family members to see the facility prior to surgery day. Each patient also receives a patient guidebook with valuable information.
Joint replacement rehabilitation
Exercise, physical therapy and rehabilitation are provided in a group setting so our patients can encourage and support each other on the road to recovery. Twice a day, our trained physical therapists gather patients for therapy sessions.
Our therapists not only work with patients during these times, but are on hand to help patients meet ambulation (movement) goals. Our therapists also work alongside coaches to help prepare family members on the patient's needs once discharged from the hospital.
Reunion luncheons
Several times a year, graduates of the Joint Replacement Center have the opportunity to gather and celebrate the successes experienced since joint replacement surgery.
This luncheon is a chance to see your favorite nurses and physical therapists, reconnect with other former patients and chat with your surgeon.
