San Antonio, Texas — Methodist Healthcare has announced the retirement of Dr. Jane McCurley, Chief Nursing Executive of Methodist Healthcare, and the promotion of Sherry Camacho to chief nursing executive.
“For more than four decades, Jane has led with grace, purpose and an unwavering dedication to nursing,” said Dan Miller, president and CEO of Methodist Healthcare. “Her influence across our system and beyond has elevated our standard of care and shaped the future of nursing leadership.”
Dr. McCurley joined Methodist Healthcare in 2017 as chief nursing officer for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital before being named Chief Nursing Executive in 2020. Her leadership has strengthened the voice of nursing across the health system through initiatives such as the Executive Nurse Residency Program, Advanced Advocacy Academy, and the Young Nurse Leader Program. Most recently, she received the 2024 Elizabeth Sjoberg Lifetime Achievement Award for Leadership and Advocacy, reflecting her enduring impact on nurses and patients. Dr. McCurley’s retirement is effective February 6, 2026.
Camacho assumes the role of chief nursing executive for Methodist Healthcare on November 17. To ensure a smooth transition, Dr. McCurley and Camacho will work together closely over the coming months, aligning key priorities and supporting continuity across nursing operations.
Camacho became chief nursing officer at Methodist Hospital in 2023, after serving in the same position at HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake and Mainland. Her nursing career has been dedicated to creating high-quality, reliable systems of care and developing the next generation of nurses and healthcare professionals.
“Sherry is a proven leader,” said Miller. “She has a passion for patient care, a commitment to excellence and a dedication to helping others. Her fresh perspective and collaborative approach will help carry forward the strong nursing culture Jane has cultivated.”
