No Tricks, just Treats with Spurs forward Julian Champagnie
San Antonio, Texas — San Antonio Spurs forward Julian Champagnie traded his jersey for a Scooby-Doo costume this Halloween as he made a surprise visit to Methodist Children’s Hospital, bringing smiles and plenty of treats to young patients and staff.
Every Halloween, Methodist Children’s Hospital transforms into a festive celebration, with each unit selecting a unique theme, dressing up their spaces with elaborate decorations, and staff donning costumes to match. The hospital hosts reverse trick-or-treating, which is a fun twist on the traditional Halloween activity. Instead of children going door-to-door asking for candy, the hospital leadership goes room-to-room giving out treats.
This year’s visit was extra spooktacular, with Champagnie joined by Coyote to hand out candy, pose for photos, and chat with children about basketball, costumes, and anything that could lift their spirits. The visit was part of the Spurs’ ongoing community outreach efforts, aimed at lifting spirits and making meaningful connections off the court.
Jamal Magee, a patient at Methodist Children’s Hospital, shared how much the visit meant to him:
“I didn’t make a wish, but it felt like one. It was inspirational to see my actual walking dream. I didn’t think I was this special, but he made me feel like I was.”
“I appreciate the hospital for giving me this opportunity. For him to stop by and show some love meant so much to me. It’s hard to describe.”
And to make the event even sweeter, Champagnie was joined by the beloved Emergency Services Facility Dogs of Methodist Healthcare—Lady, Fresca, and Chanel—who strutted through the halls in their Halloween best, dressed as a surgeon, witch, and spider.
Methodist Children's Hospital remains committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for children and their families, ensuring that even in challenging times, moments of happiness and comfort can be found. To learn more visit Methodist Children's Hospital website.
