Surgery is a branch of medicine that involves treating diseases or injuries by adjusting or removing organs, tissues or bones. Surgery includes both necessary procedures, like cardiac surgery, or elective procedures, such as joint replacement.

If your child needs surgery, we want you to feel at ease knowing they'll receive expert, personalized care.
We offer seven operating suites at Methodist Children's Hospital designed specifically for pediatric surgeries, including neurosurgery and orthopedic suites. We also have a hybrid operating room for cardiology and cardiothoracic surgeries.

Our surgical team at Methodist Children's Hospital is equipped to perform a wide range of outpatient and inpatient surgical procedures, including:

What to bring to your child’s surgery
During your child's stay with us, we want to make sure he or she is as comfortable as possible. As you're preparing for your child's surgery, we recommend bringing the following items:
- Comfortable clothes, pajamas, slippers and socks
- A blanket or stuffed animal
- Snacks, with doctor’s permission
- Toys, video games and board games
- Music, movies, books and magazines
- Pictures of friends and family
Preoperative tours
Currently, all tours are being offered virtually as we continue to practice social distancing to keep our community safe.
Directions to the surgery center
We are located on the second floor of the children's tower. You can park in Garage 2 or use our valet service. We recommend arriving at the surgery center two hours prior to your child's procedure. Make sure your child follows the specific instructions outlined by the surgeon before the surgery.
