Art Therapy Services
We provide child cancer patients with a personalized art therapy program that helps them and their families cope with the emotional stress of cancer and treatment.
Methodist Children's Hospital Art Therapy Program
Sponsored by Tracy's Kids, our art therapy program helps young cancer patients and their families cope with the emotional stress and trauma of cancer and its treatment.
Our mission through using art therapy at Methodist Children's Hospital is to ensure that the children and families we serve are emotionally equipped to fight cancer as actively as possible and then prepare them for when they are cancer-free.
Goals of art therapy for hospitalized children
- Provide a child-centered, open studio approach for inpatients and outpatients
- Use art-making to support self-expression and empowerment
- Promote social interactions among patients and families to create a sense of community
- Reduce fear and anxiety by making the hospital experience as comfortable and 'normal' as possible
- Create opportunities for control and independence during the hospital experience
- Explore and develop positive coping strategies to manage emotions
- Offer family-centered care because we know that the entire family is affected when a child has cancer
