San Antonio, Texas Methodist Healthcare is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel Goldsmith, MPA, as the Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Children’s Hospital. Goldsmith previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) for both Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital and brings over 19 years of healthcare industry experience.

“Rachel’s exceptional leadership qualities and her deep commitment to healthcare excellence make her the perfect choice for this role,” said Ryan Simpson, CEO of Methodist Hospital Campus. “I am confident that under her guidance, Methodist Children’s Hospital will flourish and continue to provide outstanding care to our youngest patients. We are very fortunate to have such a capable and visionary leader at the helm.”

Since joining Methodist Hospital in 2017 as Vice President of Operations, Business Development, and Strategy, Rachel has been instrumental in the exponential growth of multiple service lines. She played a pivotal role in advancing our cardiovascular services, including the significant expansion of our heart transplant and ECMO programs, which have had top volume and quality performance across the region.

Promoted to Chief Operating Officer of Methodist Hospital Northeast in 2020, Rachel oversaw more than $40 million in capital projects that greatly expanded the facility's capabilities. Under her leadership, the hospital experienced a growth surge and saw improvements in key metrics like OR efficiency and employee engagement.

Returning to Methodist Hospital as Chief Operating Officer, Rachel continued to demonstrate her exceptional ability to lead complex operations across a 996-bed facility. She successfully managed 34 operating rooms and multiple specialty units at Methodist Hospital, which was designated by Fortune as a Top 100 Hospital.

Rachel's strategic vision was also crucial in launching several innovative programs, including the first advanced lung failure and transplant program at HCA, and a robust limb salvage program. Her efforts in neurosciences led to the recruitment of a top-tier team and the development of comprehensive care programs that have significantly enhanced our service quality.

“I am honored and delighted to join Methodist Children's Hospital as the new CEO. I look forward to working with our dedicated and compassionate team to continue to provide world-class care for our patients and their families,” shared Goldsmith. “Together, we will strive to make a lasting positive impact on our community.”

Rachel was born at Methodist Hospital and comes from a family with deep roots in serving the San Antonio community, further enriching her dedication to this role. Goldsmith earned her Master’s in Public Administration in Health Policy and Management from New York University.

Goldsmith will assume her new role effective June 1, 2024.
