Qualifying for a pancreas transplant
Patients who have severe Type 1 diabetes may qualify for a pancreas transplant. The transplant process begins with a referral from your physician. Once we receive the referral and review your medical history, we will schedule an initial appointment. The appointment typically lasts five to seven hours. If you are a suitable candidate for a pancreas transplant, you will be placed on our waiting list.
Pancreas transplant surgery
We perform both pancreas and kidney-pancreas transplant surgeries. The pancreas transplant surgery typically lasts about three hours with recovery time in the hospital lasting about seven to 10 days.
