Groundbreaking expands access to emergency care in Medina Valley
San Antonio, TX – Methodist Healthcare celebrated the groundbreaking of Methodist ER Medina Valley, the newest free-standing emergency room (FSER) designed to improve access to high-quality emergency care for residents of Medina Valley and surrounding community.
Located at 12479 US Highway 90 in San Antonio, the 11,175 square foot facility will operate as an extension of Methodist Hospital Westover Hills. The FSER will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing care for both adults and pediatric patients. The location will have 12 emergency treatment rooms, an onsite laboratory, and advanced imaging capabilities, including CT and radiology.
An FSER is a full‑service emergency center that operates independently from a hospital campus, providing the same level of emergency care you would expect in a hospital ER. Often described as a “neighborhood ER,” these facilities are conveniently located close to home and designed for easy access, with features like convenient parking and shorter wait times.
Construction began in March 2026 and is projected for completion by March 2027. This FSER will bring the health system’s total number to eleven and reflects Methodist Healthcare’s long-term commitment to investing in the health and safety of the San Antonio community, planning not just for today’s needs, but for the area’s continued growth.

Since Methodist ER Medina Valley will function as an extension of Methodist Hospital Westover Hills, patients who require a higher level of care will benefit from seamless coordination and transfer to the hospital, ensuring continuity of care and patient safety.
