San Antonio, TX Methodist Hospital Northeast broke ground on a new patient tower today, marking a $146 million investment in Northeast San Antonio and the growing Live Oak community.

The multistory, 100,000-square-foot tower will significantly expand the hospital’s inpatient capacity and will be seamlessly connected to the existing hospital on all three floors.

The new tower will add 14 critical care beds and 64 medical-surgical beds. As part of the project, all current dual-occupancy rooms will be eliminated. The expansion also includes enlarged support spaces, such as a modernized kitchen and a significantly larger dining area.

The groundbreaking ceremony featured remarks from hospital leadership and special guest speakers, including Texas State Senator José Menéndez and Live Oak Mayor Mary Dennis, underscoring the importance of the project to the region’s continued growth and healthcare access.

“As this area grows, so do the needs of the families who live and work here – and we have made a commitment to grow right alongside them,” said Jerrica George, CEO of Methodist Hospital Northeast. “Through expanded services, new specialties, and now this latest expansion, we are ensuring that high-quality care keeps pace with the momentum of our community.”

Engineered with future growth in mind, the tower will position Methodist Hospital Northeast to meet the evolving needs of the region for years to come.
